31 days till Halloween [Action/ Video]

Have you ever seen such a big city?

_{[A winded Jack points his 'gear at the entrance to Goldenrod in all its glory. The camera is unsteady and the little Houndour puppy in the shot looks anxious. His trainer's been wobbling for a while.]}

Halloween Town was big, but this place is amazing! Hooh, it was...it was a hike, I'll say that much. My memory's a little off right now, but whoever said that forest was a maze, you were right. It's no Union Cave but...

Who can tell me anything about this place? How is everyone?

_{[Jack starts walking and gravitates towards a bench which he then flops down on and films the street traffic from. One the Houndour chases some Pidgies away from a nearby statue.]}

_{[And just casually strolling Goldenrod with an Eevee cheerfully following him is Coop! As coincidence and fate will have it, he so happens to be on the same edge of town as Jack - then again, such amazing meetings by chance are somehow common in Johto.]

[Either way, hands in his pockets (jeans, for once, and boy is casual wear a new thing on this guy) and a small smile, he catches sight of Jack and approaches easily, the Eevee instantly hops onto the fact that hey there might a playmate in that Houndour and bounds over, making both her and her trainer's presence known.]}

Good day, Jack. Just got here?

_{[ One looks up from chasing birds and notices the Eevee. Being the bold creature he is, he meets her half way and shoves his nose in her face. 8I OH HI WHO ARE YOU I'M ONE. THAT COMES AFTER ZERO. WHATEVER ZERO IS.]

[Jack, meanwhile, only grunts before lifting his head. The road kicked his ass right and proper and now he's feeling it.]}

Hello! Only today, just now...or maybe a few hours ago. I can't...quite remember. It was some walk. Who's that with you?

_{[Emily is a-okay with having a Houndour nose in her face and headbutts him playfully, before sniffing all over his face. GOTTA IDENTIFY YOU. YOU MIGHT BE STRANGE. BUT I THINK YOU'RE CLEAR-- YEAH YOU'RE COOL. She sits back and bats at him with her paw, tilting her head. HI ONE, I'M EMILY. :D]

[Coop simply chuckles lightly at Jack, even if he himself appears a little subdued - but he's trying to make the most of the situation, and it is a lovely day.]}

That forest is not to be taken lightly, huh? _{[He stands for only a second longer before he invites himself to sit down next to Jack on the bench, his gaze directed at the two pokémon.]} That's Emily. Makes friends as often as she can, that one.

_{[One crosses his eyes and bats at Emily with his much larger paw. DO YOU KNOW HOW TO PLAY THE RUN IN CIRCLES GAME.]

[Jack doesn't protest. He's glad for the company. It was a long, lonely walk. And there were ledges. Bedamned ledges.]}

I'm sure she'll get along with One...I just hope he doesn't play too rough with her. I only just got him to stop setting things on fire.

_{[Jack finally sits back up and rubs his neck. HIS EVERYTHING HURT.]}

You living folk sure are amazing. You can just go on and on, even when your muscles hurt.

_{[I THINK SO. THAT'S THE ONE WHERE YOU RUN IN CIRCLES, RIGHT?]

[That fire-comment prompts a grin, though, and Coop shakes his head.]}

You should see the company she's usually in. I'm sure she'll be fine.

_{[Referring to his ... well, quite adventurous Manectric, he turns his head to look at Jack more thoroughly and takes in the sort of worn-down appearance and expression again.]}

You're as much a living folk as the rest of us when you're here. And from the looks of it you did make it this far.

_{[OH MAN YEAH ITS MY FAVORITE GAME GO. One breaks into an awkward gallop while trying to look behind him at the same time. None of Jack's other pokemon would play with him Emily was awesome ;-;]

[Jack watches the poke'frolic for a time. FOCUS, MAN. FOCUS.]}

Hah, well, I mean you're used to it. You're an expert at being alive. I hate to say it, but I think being dead for so long has spoiled me.

_{[Jack winces as One rounds the bend in the CIRCLE GAME and lands face-first on the ground. Naturally, like a doofy little kid he gets back up and just keeps running. %D OMG EMILY DID YOU SEE THAT THAT WAS AWESOME. Jack can't help but look a tad jealous. Forgive him, Coop, he's just tired.]}

It's good to see you again, Cooper. It's nice to have a familiar face here-- this is a large city! How long have you been here?

_{[Emily is totally doing the Eevee equivalent of a giggle and TACKLES ONE TO THE GROUND AGAIN. CAUSE FALLING WAS AWESOME. WRESTLING IS EVEN AWESOMER. LET'S WRESTLE. OR TAG??]}

Two weeks, give or take a day or two. _{[He looks up at the sky briefly, leans back comfortably.]} If you're anything like me, Jack, you might end up staying a while. There are a lot of things here, to see and do.

I think I'd like to stay here for a while, honestly. After a long lonely walk like that, I don't feel like striking out again any time soon. I'd almost forgotten what traveling was like. It should be easy to find a job here...

What do you do, Cooper?

_{[Come to think of it...he really didn't know much about him!]}

_{[NOISY BALL FOR THE WIN.]}

I don't plan on staying for too long this time. I'll give the gym a shot and then be on my way.

_{[So restless lately. And he looks sort of wistful as he answers the question. He misses his job.]}

Back home? I'm with the law enforcement. One better organised than the one they have here, I might add.

Wow, really? You're a government man? Funny, I never pegged you as one...though your government is probably different than mine. Ours is a bit two-faced _[Literally] and you don't seem the sort.

_{[Some of Jack's cheer starts to return.]}

You've been here longer than I have. Where would you suggest I go first?

All governments can suffer from that. Luckily I haven't had too many brush-ins with the one I'm working for.

_{[He smiles at the passive compliment and it widens into a grin. Boy does he know places.]}

Well Jack, that depends on what you'd like to do. But I can recommend a place with excellent cake that's not too far from the Hotel. How about a bite before you check in?

You know...cake sounds great right about now. I've been eating nothing but trail mix and energy bars since I left Azalea.

_{[Coop stands and calls for Emily, who happily bounds over and starts ... giving little sounds until he gives in and picks her up. She's a cuddler. He's used to this though and indicates the general direction with a nod of his head.]}

Right down this street, for starters. _{[He turns his head towards Jack, still grinning as he starts walking. Widely.]} How many chocolate cakes have you had in your life?

_{[Jack whistles to One and falls into step.]}

Well...I can't remember the first time I was alive. So...in this life? None, I suppose.

_{[A few little chocolate snack rolls here and there when he was on the go, but a real honest-to-God cake? Not this skeleton.]}

Jack, you're in for a treat.

_{[YEAH. He likes this place. It's where he had his birthday cake.]

[Walking at a medium pace and generally just enjoying the hustle and bustle of the streets, Coop makes a right turn at the end of it.]}

A slice of this cake and a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side ... let's just say it's worth the money.

_{[Jack has some trouble keeping up with Coop because there were SO MANY THINGS TO SEE. He wanted to know what this person was selling. What did those potions do? What kind of pokemon was that? THEY HAD MOVIES HERE. Jack really wanted to see a movie.]}

_{[One question deserves another!]}

_{[When Coop notices this he slows down his pace politely to allow Jack to investigate as much as he pleases. Emily has fallen asleep, so he remains without hands for the time being, and can't gesture quite as much as he would like, but still tilts his head in a sort of tune to what he's saying.]}

Considerately more than none. _[:D] Quite a few here, actually. It looks like a Goldenrod speciality. In Cherrygrove there's more to be said for the coffee than the cakes, and in Violet it's all about the pies.

Coffee...I haven't had coffee since I left Azalea either.

_{[Jack didn't thrive on the stuff but he liked it in the morning sometimes. For a guy who's holiday nowadays mostly centered around candy, he didn't seem to have much of a sweet tooth. Or maybe he just hadn't had much exposure since regaining his tongue.]}

_{[Jack, Coop is doing to teach you everything about culinary pleasure.]}

_{[Jack bites his lip. He never really payed attention to that sort of thing. Whenever he asked for coffee, he'd just said 'coffee' and accepted whatever he was given.]}

Ah...regular?

_{[Coop is infinitely amused and just cocks an eyebrow Jack's way, but with a smile.]}

Not too picky, are you?

Not really...but I'm ready to try anything!

_{[Right answer! Taking a left here, and they're close enough to see this highly-spoken-of cafeteria place, the Hotel towering nearby.]}
