22 days till Halloween [video]

[Hey there, Johto! It’s been a while since we’ve seen the old Pumpkin King. His mun is a sickly weenie forgive her. He’s holding the ‘gear up so that we get a good look at a very…surprised looking Jack.

If one looks a little longer, they may notice he’s not actually that surprised.

It’s just that both his eyebrows are missing.]

Hello! How is everyone? I have a question for anyone who keeps fire pokemon since One is my first.

[The camera is angled down to a chipper little Houndour. He’s wagging his nubby little tail and standing in a scorched circle. Edgar perches behind him on a town bench. Her tail is gone and she is not impress.]

I want him to be proud of himself but…how do I explain that catching everything on fire is not okay outside of battle? It's his new favorite game.

H-haha.. I wish I could help. I never had a problem with that with Typhlosion, even when he was still a Cyndaquil.
Maybe he'll just grow out of it?

Yeah! Can't expect it to have that kind of self control when it's still just a baby, right?

... If you get a decent answer to this, tell me.

[Because while neither Cujo NOR Carousel did this on a regular basis... Heather was kind of worried that they'd start.]

[Oh hey, it's that little hell dog Lancer showed her.]

Have you tried to explain it to him verbally?

[identity profile] used-harden.livejournal.com 2011-02-12 05:39 pm (UTC)(link)
That may be the case.

If he continues, do not give him the attention he will be seeking. He should eventually learn that you are not wanting him to use his attacks outside of battle.

If that does not work with time, you may have to resort to punishments. Just be sure not to hurt him.

I believe it's all about stimuli.

You should reward a well behaved pokémon for their behavior, and punish the badly behaved. For example, you can praise your pokémon when they use their fire in a battle, but reprimand them when they do it outside.

Maybe a little pinch here and there, it has worked fine so far with all my pokémon.

That sounds like a sensible idea, some water won't hurt the pokémon, but it will sure work as a good warning.

Um, maybe you could give him a treat when he DOESN'T set things on fire like you tell him to...!

Gloves? How come?

O-Oh...

[She involuntary glances at her bandaged arms before nodding] ... that's a REALLY good idea.

Yours does that too?

[He laughed at that, honestly amused.]

I wonder if every one of this species is like that.

She's still a Houndour. You'll have to train her not to start spitting fire outside of battle.

[identity profile] solas-ion.livejournal.com 2011-02-12 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not so hard. Training something here is a lot easier than back home, particularly where most of the creatures here seem to understand speech pretty well.

Perhaps you could keep a water type on hand for a good dousing when it misbehaves.

[He kind of laughs -- mostly knowing how Magikarp are, but he's not going to point that out.]

Oh, it's not a problem at all. It's only the right thing to do, after all.

[identity profile] cheapblusuits.livejournal.com 2011-02-12 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
...uh.

Sirius never does anything like that, so...you're on your own on this one, Jack.

[FOR ONCE, THE TABLES HAVE TURNED.]

Anytime. [A grin, and a sneeze.]

By the way, Jack...are you still in Violet?

[BECAUSE GUESS WHO JUUUST GOT THERE? 8DD]

[identity profile] remilution.livejournal.com 2011-02-12 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm...

Perhaps try teaching him how to light fire... in a useful way?

[identity profile] remilution.livejournal.com 2011-02-12 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
It has been cold lately...

Lighting campfires sounds very useful, though! And with that, maybe he'll reach his limit.

Oh, Karen does the same thing. I've just tried letting her know that it makes me sad when she lights things on fire, and she doesn't want to make me upset, so she's been trying to control things.

Good luck. Pokemon do seem to want to keep their owners happy, so-- I hope it works.
